One of the highlights is the Farmerโs Day Celebration organized by the Municipal Agriculturist Office in partnership with MAFC. It was graced by the esteemed presence of
Dr. Cheryl Lazaga Eusala as the guest of honor and speaker.
Dr. Cheryl L. Eusala took the center stage to emphasize the crucial role of farmers as food providers and the backbone of the agricultural industry. She commended the unity and collaboration exhibited by the 28 barangays, which played a pivotal role in the successful commemoration of the municipality’s founding anniversary.
Addressing a crowd of eager listeners, Dr. Eusala extended her acknowledgment to the rubber farmers of the region. She provided a succinct update on the initiatives of PRRI, not only in combating the emerging Pestalotiopsis Leaf Fall Disease (PLFD) but also in outlining the organization’s plans for expansion and distribution of vital planting materials.
Dr. Jill Villanueva, an expert in the field, also played a significant role during the celebration. She served as the resource person for the Information and Education Campaign on the PLFD in rubber during the Farmer’s Forum. The forum, attended by representatives from the 28 barangays, Local Government Units (LGU), Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMAg), Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG), and the Agriculture Promotion Center Office (APCO), provided a platform for Dr. Villanueva to share her insights.
Dr. Villanueva’s presentation was followed by an engaging open forum and discussion centered around the threats posed by PLFD in rubber. The session fostered a productive dialogue, offering participants an opportunity to delve into effective management strategies.
The culmination of the forum was met with resounding success, as it left rubber farmers in Arakan motivated and empowered to take action against the looming threat of the PLFD. The event not only highlighted the importance of knowledge sharing but also reinforced the spirit of collaboration among various stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
Dr. Eusala expressed her anticipation for a potential partnership between PRRI and the Municipality of Arakan to further the rubber industry in the broader context of Cotabato Province. With such initiatives and collaborative efforts, Arakan takes a promising step towards securing the future of its agricultural landscape and the welfare of its farming community.
As the Farmer’s Day Celebration concluded, the event left a trail of inspiration and awareness, echoing the shared commitment to agricultural progress and sustainable farming practices. The festivities, punctuated by knowledge-sharing sessions and meaningful discussions, reinforced the vital role of every individual in the journey towards a thriving agricultural future.
