The Philippine Rubber Research Institute, led by Interim Executive Director Rodolfo L. Galang, conducted a 3-day seminar workshop entitled “Enhancing the Planning and Monitoring Capacity of PRRI Staff using the Goal-Oriented Project Planning (GOPP) Approach”, which was held at Sibugay Grand Plaza Hotel, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay last April 21-23, 2015.

On the first day of the workshop, the topics “organizational development” and “strengthening organizations” were discussed by Mr. Joseph D. Sue of Ipil National High School and Ms. Julieh Reza Gainsan of Dr. Aurelio Mendoza Memorial Colleges (AMMC), respectively.
Mr. Sue mentioned the organization objectives which includes the following: 1.) Increase the level of interpersonal trust among employees; 2.) Increase employees’ level of satisfaction and commitment; 3.) Confront problems instead of rejecting; 4.) To effectively manage conflict; 5.) Increase cooperation among employees; 6.) Increase the organization problem solving; and lastly, 7.) To continue the operations of the organization on a sustainable basis.

The concept of organizational development, which involves systematic learning and development strategy that intend to change the basic beliefs, attitudes and relevance of values, was highlighted by the speaker. He also emphasized the strategies needed to attain better knowledge on organization potentials and constraints.

Ms. Julieh Reza Gainsan talked about organizational strengthening through personality development. She stressed out the points of enriching one’s personality to lessen possible conflict and personal problems that may affect the organization’s growth and development. The speaker also cited the importance of good relationship towards its co-workers and colleagues.

After the lectures, the PRRI staff was divided into two groups for the team building. The facilitators prepared obstacles and challenges per station. The purpose of the activity was to develop tactics and methods in problem solving through good camaraderie and exchanging ideas in the workplace.

On the second day of the workshop, Executive Director Rodolfo Galang introduced the Project Management Cycle to the participants and particularly focused on the application of the Log frame Matrix in planning and evaluation of research projects. He discussed the different indicators and measures for each juncture of the log frame such as project inputs, project outputs, project objectives and project goal. A hands-on workshop on the application of the log frame matrix on the PRRI projects was conducted and guided by the director.

On the last day of the workshop, Director Galang and the PRRI staff discussed more on the lessons learned as well as the plans for the application of the Goal Oriented Project Planning (GOPP) in all rubber R&D projects, to make sure that all rubber R&D projects would be goal-oriented.
