The Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) hosted a three-day National Rubber Stakeholders’ Consultation and Philippine Rubber Roadmap Updating 2025 held in Parklay Hotel, Kidapawan City, brought together key players across the rubber value chain—from farmers and processors to industry leaders, researchers, government agencies, and private sector partners. The activity served as a national platform for dialogue, alignment, and collective vision-setting for the future of the Philippine rubber industry.

Held over three intensive days, the consultation provided a venue to revisit the country’s current rubber landscape, confront persistent challenges, and identify strategic priorities essential for updating the Philippine Rubber Roadmap for 2025 and beyond.

The opening day focused on grounding participants in the industry’s current situation. Technical presentations outlined trends in domestic rubber production, quality standards, market performance, climate vulnerabilities, and the evolving needs of farmers and processors. Stakeholders from various regions shared their on-the-ground experiences, allowing the group to appreciate the diverse challenges faced across the country.

Discussions underscored recurring concerns such as productivity gaps, aging trees, fluctuating prices, weak market linkages, need for stronger farmer organizations, and the urgency of modernizing production and processing practices. The day closed with a clearer understanding of the sector’s baseline and the areas requiring collective action.

The second day moved toward technical alignment and problem-solving. Sectoral break-out groups were formed to tackle key themes—including production, processing, marketing, quality assurance, research and development, extension services, and institutional support.

Experts and agency representatives discussed existing programs and policies, highlighting where interventions are succeeding and where adjustments or new strategies are needed.

Dialogue was honest, constructive, and forward-looking. Participants also revisited priority reforms needed to strengthen the competitiveness of the Philippine rubber industry, including:

• improving farmer incomes through value-adding and market access;

• enhancing extension and training systems;

• harmonizing standards and certifications;

• encouraging private sector investments;

• supporting cooperatives and associations;

• establishing stronger inter-agency coordination.

The day emphasized that updating the Roadmap requires both grassroots perspectives and national-level policy coherence.

The final day focused on consolidating all inputs gathered during the consultation. After revisiting the discussions from Days 1 and 2, the participants identified key points that must be reflected in the updated Rubber Roadmap.

The PCAF Team, who diligently captured all minutes and key insights throughout the event, presented the Synthesis of Discussions. Their report highlighted major thematic areas, action points, and proposed directions for 2025 and the years ahead.

Stakeholders expressed strong commitment to refining and validating the proposed updates to ensure the roadmap becomes a practical, realistic, and forward-looking guide for industry development.

More than a consultation, the three-day activity became a milestone of shared purpose. It strengthened collaboration across agencies, institutions, and communities, and renewed momentum to support the rubber sector—one of Mindanao’s most important agricultural industries.

Undersecretary for High Value Crops Development Program Cheryl Marie Natividad-Caballero and PCAF Director Bernadette Delos Santos graced the event, underscoring national commitment to the roadmap and affirming the importance of collaborative industry development.

The updated Philippine Rubber Roadmap 2025 will serve as a blueprint for aligned action, guiding long-term sustainability, competitiveness, and inclusive growth for the country’s rubber sector. With the active participation of stakeholders nationwide, the roadmap promises to reflect real needs, clear priorities, and actionable strategies for a stronger and more resilient rubber industry – towards a #GOMA-gaang Buhay!
