PRRI Executive Director, Dr. Cheryl Lazaga Eusala, recently visited the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) for a courtesy meeting with President Dr. Francisco Gil Garcia and Vice President for Research Development and Extension (VPRDE) Dr. Debbie Marie Versoza. The focus of the discussion was on strengthening their partnership, particularly regarding the Rubber Testing Laboratory. Key topics included the need for certified lab analyses for semi-processed rubber products, the utilization of USM’s budwood garden for breeding and research, potential collaborations for peer-reviewed publications, and the establishment of a PRRI sub-office at USM to enhance research and development efforts in the rubber industry.
A field visit is scheduled for November 4 to finalize the partnership agreement, during which President Garcia offered facilities for PRRIโ€™s use. An ocular inspection of these facilities was conducted with VPRDE.
Additionally, a visit to SOXAARRDEC highlighted collaborative opportunities for future initiatives. This partnership aims to enhance the rubber industry and strengthen research capabilities, fostering a strong โ€œugnayanโ€ between institutions towards a GOMAgaang Buhay!

KIDAPAWAN CITY – October 24, 2025 || Philippine Rubber Research Institute Executive Director, Dr. Cheryl Lazaga Eusala (PRRI-EDCLE) graced the meeting of the Regional Rubber Industry held at Hof Mansion in Balindog, Kidapawan City. Director Eusala took the opportunity to present PRRIโ€™s ongoing programs and projects, emphasizing the production of superior quality planting materials at the PRRI-Aroman Rubber Nursery. Additionally, she acknowledged Cotabato Province’s status as the highest rubber-producing region.
Director Eusala commended the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 12 (DA-RFO12) for their collaboration and she invited all attendees to the upcoming R12 stakeholderโ€™s meeting initiated by PRRI in preparation for the 2026 Budget Proposal.

PRRI Hosts 6th Regional Management Committee

The Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) successfully hosted the 6th Regional Management Committee (RMC) meeting, defying the heavy outpouring of Tropical Depression Kristine. Various regional heads and stakeholders gathered to present their accomplishments throughout 2024.

PRRI Executive Director Cheryl Lazaga Eusala, alongside Mr. Jack Sandique, showcased products developed through Improved Technology in Rubber Production, highlighting this as PRRIโ€™s flagship program under her leadership at the Aroman Rubber Nursery.

Department of Agriculture XII Regional Executive Director Roberto T. Perales presided over the meeting, which included discussions on updates from various agricultural sectors and plans for the upcoming year.

PRRI is proud to have hosted such a big event, which aims to strengthen the collaboration among stakeholders and enhance the agricultural landscape in the country towards achieving โ€œGoma-gaang Buhay.โ€

October 4, 2024, in Aroman Cotabato || PRRI Executive Director, Dr. Cheryl Lazaga Eusala hosted a get-together with newly appointed Advisory Council Farmer Representative Mr. Joseph Faustino A. Lago and PRRI technical consultants Dr. Choy Mamaril, Dr. Narceo Bajet, and Mr. Jack Sandique. The meeting focused on sharing PRRI updates and discussing the significance of new improved technology in rubber production to tackle long-standing productivity challenges, with a commitment to providing good quality planting materials. The team visited the Prime Homestead Agri Ventures Inc. (PHAVI) farm, where Mr. Sandique showcased a rubber plantation using advanced management techniques, and also at the PRRI nursery, where Director Eusala demonstrated the nursery process to enhance understanding of effective rubber farming practices.

With deep gratitude, PRRI acknowledges President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for his recognition in appointing Mr. Lago as the first-ever Advisory Council Farmer Representative. ๐’๐ž๐ฉ๐ญ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ, ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’, ANTIPAS, COTABATO || PRRI Executive Director, Dr. Cheryl Lazaga Eusala together with Mr. Jess Bryan Alvariรฑo (GRID), Ms. Honey Boje (GRID), and Ms. Girlie Saludo (OIC-Chief, RTESD) participated in the 3rd Quarter Meeting of the Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF) National Sectoral Committee on Rubber, held in the Municipal Agriculture Office Conference Room, Antipas, Cotabato. Also in attendance were DA-BPI and Mr. Gabriel Igot from the Philippine Rubber Technical Working Group (TWG).

Mr. Jack Alfonso Sandique presided over the meeting, guiding discussions on key initiatives and strategies aimed at strengthening the rubber sector in the Philippines. Additionally, Ms. Honey Boje shared valuable insights on the Project Results regarding the Latex Yield Evaluation of Conventional (S2) and Novel (S4) Rubber Tapping Systems. This project has garnered significant support through a formal resolution.

After the adjournment of the PCAF meeting, the PRRI team conducted a brief session with local rubber farmers to address some of their concerns and queries. The meeting succesfully covered various other agenda items, including the status of Administrative Orders related to pests. Overall, numerous resolutions were passed to ensure the development and sustainability of the rubber industry, reflecting a strong commitment from all stakeholders involved towards a #GOMA-gaang buhay!
