In a remarkable effort to promote sustainable agricultural practices, the Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) made a significant impact during a Farmers Outreach Program held in the municipalities of Titay and Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay province. Organized by the Department of Agriculture-High Value Crops Development Program IX (DA-HVCDP IX), the program saw a resounding success with the participation of farmers, staff of the Municipal Agriculture Offices, and representatives from other DA-RFO IX line programs.
On July 12, 2023, PRRI, a renowned authority in rubber farming practices and disease management, took center stage as it presented valuable insights to local farmers. Mr. Meynard P. Abello, the institute’s representative, delivered an enlightening presentation, shedding light on best practices for rubber farming and offering essential guidance on the management of rubber diseases. Farmers, eagerly engaged in the session, had their questions answered, gaining crucial knowledge that could significantly impact their future agricultural endeavors.
A pivotal highlight of the outreach program was PRRI’s focused efforts in raising awareness about the economically-devastating Pestalotiopsis Leaf Fall Disease, a major concern threatening rubber trees. By addressing this significant challenge head-on, PRRI demonstrated its commitment to safeguarding the livelihoods of rubber farmers in the region.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Abello emphasized PRRI’s committed dedication to sustainable agricultural development in rural communities. He underscored the importance of collaboration with partner agencies to foster knowledge-sharing and skills enhancement among rubber farmers. By empowering local farmers with the latest expertise and know-how, PRRI aims to bolster the resilience and prosperity of the rubber farming sector.
The collaborative initiative between PRRI and DA-HVCDP IX not only proved successful but also underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing the nation’s agricultural interests. This event served as a prime example of how collective efforts can pave the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future for Philippine agriculture.
The Farmers Outreach Program left an indelible mark on the local community, leaving farmers equipped with the tools they need to combat rubber diseases and improve their agricultural practices. As PRRI continues its journey in supporting rural communities, it remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering sustainable and thriving rubber farming in the Philippines.
Through such initiatives, the institute continues to contribute significantly to the nation’s agricultural progress and the well-being of its farmers.
