The collaborative efforts of the Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI), Bureau of Plant Industry-National Plant Quarantine Services Division (BPI-NPQSD), and the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur (PGAS) have borne fruit with the successful conduct of the Plant Quarantine Deputation Training and Capacity Development Program. Held on August 1-2, 2023, at the Agricultural Resource Center in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur, the training aimed to bolster plant quarantine measures and combat the Pestalotiopsis Leaf Fall Disease (PLFD) affecting rubber crops.

This comprehensive training program focused on empowering Plant Quarantine Inspectors/Officers and Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) to effectively address the threat of PLFD. With a primary goal of mitigating the spread of this disease within the province, participants from various municipalities across Agusan del Sur gathered to enhance their knowledge and skills in handling local/domestic movement of rubber planting materials.

The training sessions were both enlightening and interactive, with participants actively engaging in discussions and field tours. The hands-on approach allowed attendees to delve deep into the real-time Disease Surveillance, Monitoring, and Management of PLFD. Notably, the enthusiasm and proactive participation of all involved showcased a shared commitment to safeguarding the rubber industry.
As a culminating activity, participants underwent a post-test, an essential step towards their potential deputation by the BPI-PQS. The success of the training serves as a testament to the dedication and collaborative spirit of all partners involved – PRRI, BPI-NPQSD, and PGAS. Together, they have laid a foundation for a more resilient rubber industry in Agusan del Sur.

Stay tuned for more updates on our continuous efforts to strengthen plant quarantine measures and combat the spread of PLFD. We remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring the health and sustainability of our rubber crops.
