The Philippine Rubber Research Institute Executive Director, Dr. Cheryl Lazaga attended the Inaugural Meeting for strategic advancement, presided over by Ms. Mercedita Sombilla, the newly appointed Undersecretary for DA Bureaus. The meeting focused on discussing 3-5 Key Priority Action Points (PAPs) that require careful implementation and monitoring. It addressed the need for connectivity and collaboration across all Operating Units (OUs) and identified issues that should be raised with the DA Secretary.

This gathering aimed to harmonize priority Program, Projects, and Activities (PPAs) while enhancing collaboration with Operating Units (OUs). It fostered a collaborative exchange that laid the foundation for a comprehensive and unified strategy. Director Eusala presented PRRI’s priority programs and concerns crucial for propelling towards its objectives, highlighting office buildings and laboratories, mechanization for land preparation to address rubber diseases, and the harmonization of agency and bureau programs and projects for partnerships and collaboration.

As a result, monthly meetings were scheduled to ensure ongoing evaluation, updates, and collaboration for informed decision-making. Through this transformative initiative and commitment to solidifying the institute’s role in advancing technology and innovation, productivity is expected to be boosted, building resilience in the rubber industry.

On the same day, the PRRI Executive Director visited DA-Information and Communications Technology Services (ICTS) Director Honorio C. Flameño to explore possible collaboration and partnership for the PRRI portal and the Rubber Industry Profiling and Data Banking project. This ambitious initiative aims to establish a comprehensive database for public access, providing information on the Philippine Rubber Industry across value chain segments – from production to end-user. Director Eusala emphasized the crucial role of accurate data in strategic planning for sustainable development and to enhance the PRRI ICT System.

As PRRI embarks on a path of innovation and collaboration, the institute looks forward to even more fruitful partnerships and future endeavors. May these initiatives propel PRRI and the Philippine rubber industry towards new heights of success and sustainable growth in 2024 and beyond.
