In a recent update for the Philippine rubber industry, Dr. Cheryl Lazaga Eusala, Executive Director III of the Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI), has been elected as a new Board Member of the International Rubber Research and Development Board (IRRDB) during the Committee of Directors meeting held at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Pattaya, Thailand, on February 22, 2024. This marks a significant milestone for both Director Eusala and the Philippines, solidifying the country’s position as a leading force in rubber research and development.
Director Eusala actively represented the Philippines throughout the meeting, engaging in discussions on critical topics affecting the global rubber industry. These included the election of a chairman, announcements by the Secretary General, observer statements from related organizations, changes in directors of member institutes, confirmation of meeting minutes, and crucial discussions on disease management and collaborative projects. Additionally, new liaison officers were appointed to represent different specialist groups within the IRRDB, further strengthening international collaboration.
Director Eusala’s leadership and expertise were instrumental in securing the Philippines’ bid to host the International Rubber Conference (IRC) in either 2026 or 2027, depending on Brazil’s decision regarding their potential hosting in 2026. This prestigious event will provide a platform for the country to showcase its advancements in rubber research, foster international partnerships, and attract investments to the local rubber sector. Notably, the Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) has agreed to host the IRC in 2025, coinciding with the centenary celebrations of the establishment of the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia in 1925.
Director Eusala’s dedication and vision are evident in her active participation in international forums like the IRRDB Committee of Directors meeting. Her profound understanding of rubber cultivation, stemming from her childhood experiences, combined with her strategic leadership, have made invaluable contributions to shaping the discourse on global rubber industry challenges. Her appointment as a Board Member further underscores the Philippines’ commitment to innovation and sustainability within the sector.
The PRRI Family extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Eusala for her well-deserved recognition and leadership. Her involvement in prestigious gatherings like this aligns perfectly with PRRI’s goals of driving innovation, fostering partnerships, and advancing the Philippine rubber industry towards greater heights of success. We are confident that Director Che’s continued dedication and expertise will pave the way for a brighter future for the Philippine rubber industry, both on the national and international stage.
Cheers and more power to you, Director Cheryl!
