The Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) buzzed with activity as it celebrated the 2nd founding anniversary of its Experimental Station at DA-ARES, Aroman, Carmen, Cotabato. The event wasn’t just a milestone for PRRI but is believed to have created a significant impact on the rubber stakeholders who participated, with nearly 200 people in attendance.

The celebration marked a historic first for PRRI with the presence of two Undersecretaries: Usec for DA Bureaus, Mercedita A. Sombilla, Ph.D. and Usec for HVCDP Cheryl Marie Natividad-Caballero. This high-level representation from the Department of Agriculture (DA) underscores the growing importance placed on the rubber industry.

This significant event wasn’t just about commemorating the past, it was a springboard for the future. PRRI proudly presented its Improved Technology on Rubber Nursery Production. Usec Cheryl Natividad-Caballero demonstrated the planting of germinated seeds, showcasing this revolutionary step designed to empower rubber farmers and propel the industry forward. Mr. Sandique, a renowned expert in the field, served as a valuable resource person for Improved Technology on Rubber Nursery Production.

At the helm of this exciting initiative was PRRI’s dynamic Executive Director, Dr. Cheryl L. Eusala (Charming Edcle). Director Eusala underscored the critical importance of the Improved Technology on Rubber Nursery, outlining the advancements made since the previous technology and passionately advocating for making it readily available to rubber farmers. Her vision is clear: to equip our farmers with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive, ensuring the sustained growth of the Philippines’ rubber industry.

The celebratory mood continued as Director Eusala announced the upcoming Launching of Ascending Arts in Rubber, kicking off on March 11, 2024. This program aims to ignite creativity and artistic expression within the rubber industry, fostering a deep sense of pride and identity among rubber farmers and stakeholders.

Executive Director Eusala took the opportunity to express her heartfelt gratitude to a distinguished group of supporters. This included government agencies like DA RFO 12 John B. Pascual, DVM OIC Regional Director (represented by Lorna P. Vilbar, Ph.D.), Regional Technical Directors for Operations, and Cotabato Governor Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza. Their unwavering support for PRRI and the rubber industry as a whole is a cornerstone of continued progress.

By embracing new technologies and forging strong partnerships, PRRI, DA, and other government agencies are paving the way for a “Bagong Pilipinas” in the rubber industry. This new era will be driven by innovation, collaboration, and a commitment to sustainable agricultural practices. The future of the Philippines’ rubber industry is bright, and with continued dedication and collaboration, the sky’s the limit. Mabuhay ang PRRI!
