Born from the shared vision of the Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) and the Philippine Rubber Industries Association (PRIA), comes the first of its kind – introducing ‘Ascending Arts in Rubber’. This project was successfully launched on March 11, 2024, kicking off a weeklong exhibit that will run until March 15, 2024, at the Department of Agriculture Central Office Lobby, Diliman Quezon City.

This launching exhibit offers a unique experience to those unfamiliar with the process of rubber harvesting by bringing in an actual rubber tree offering hands-on demonstration. It also showcases a diverse range of rubber-based products, providing a comprehensive view of the industry’s value chain. From the humble beginnings of rubber trees to the rawness of semi-processed materials and the final transformation into finished products. By bringing the rubber farm experience, visitors gain a deeper understanding of the dedication and hard work involved in cultivating and harvesting rubber.

The event commenced with a flag-raising activity followed by the launching program graced by DA Secretary Fransisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr expressing his support for the rubber industry. Present also during the event are Usec Mercedita Sombilla, Usec Roger Navarro, Usec Christopher Morales, Secretary of Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Conrado M. Estrella III, Assistant Secretary Arnel V. De Mesa, PRIA Vice President Allan Dee, and PRRI Executive Director Cheryl L. Eusala along with other Under Secretaries, Assistant Secretaries, Directors, and Development Partners.

Usec Sombilla, Undersecretary for DA Bureaus recognized the importance and challenges of the rubber industry in the Philippines. She assured the Department of Agriculture’s continued support and urged the embrace of opportunities to drive positive change for the rubber industry through art and collaboration.

In her speech, Executive Director Chery L. Eusala, Ph.D (Charming Edcle) emphasized the event’s significance as a landmark for PRRI, located at the Department of Agriculture (DA), in collaboration with the Philippine Rubber Industries Association (PRIA). She elaborated by stating that this initiative aims to educate people about the full spectrum of the rubber industry, highlighting its role as a source of natural wealth and the “White Gold Commodity” of Mindanao.

Aligned with the national vision of #BagongPilipinas, ‘Ascending Arts in Rubber’ actively contributes to advancing broader goals of economic development, innovation, and sustainability for the rubber industry. This ensures a prosperous and sustainable future for all stakeholders involved.

This event indeed marks a historic milestone for PRRI’s journey towards greater progress and innovation in the Philippine rubber industry. Cheers to more collaborations between PRRI, PRIA, and the DA for the advancement of the rubber industry!”
