The Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) recently attended a workshop on Basic Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Training for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Personnel Phase II, which took place in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan from August 26-30, 2024. The training, led by Sr. Science Research Specialist and DRRM Alternate Focal Person Ariel O. Vilar, aimed to enhance the M&E capacity of DRRM personnel from the Department of Agriculture’s regional offices and affiliated agencies.

Framework Alignment: Participants revised and aligned departmental frameworks with national strategies

Indicator Development and Refinement: Emphasis was placed on developing SMART indicators to support strategic goals.

Framework Integration and Finalization: The training addressed integration processes and finalized outputs, with contributions from PRRI regarding response and recovery measures.

The key outcomes included the successful development of SMART indicators, improved alignment of frameworks, and clearer definitions of indicators. Participants expressed positive feedback regarding the skills acquired during the training.

Recommendations from the workshop included promoting knowledge-sharing among participants, developing a repository of best practices, and utilizing the PRDP’s Management Information System to enhance implementation. The workshop outputs will be consolidated for the DA Central Office, informing DRR strategic planning for 2026 and beyond. Additionally, these outputs will be reviewed and vetted by the DA DRRMS, with updated documents provided to DA offices for further feedback.

This initiative reflects PRRI’s commitment to empowering local agencies and enhancing disaster risk management across the Philippines.
