The Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) staff joins for the first time in the four-day event set stage by the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Agricultural Research 12th Agriculture and Fisheries Technology Forum and Product Exhibition with the Theme: “Pagsulong ng mga Teknolohiya sa Pamayanan Tungo sa Maunlad na Pagsasaka at Pangingisda” on August 11-14, 2016 held at Megatrade Hall 2, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City
PRRI as a newbie participant of this event did its best to compete with the rest. PRRI’s booth presentation composed of the rubber industry value chain. There were 6 PPRI staff and 1 Deputy Director that were sent to man the booth exhibit. The varied booth presentations differ much in display, colour and taste depending on which products they were endorsing. The competition was stiff only among DA RFO’s – for they were more equipped and prepared compared to DA Attached Agencies, SUC’s and other Private Sectors.
This said activity was hosted by the Bureau of Agricultural Research to showcase technologies and products generated by different agencies in order to provide stakeholders with new and innovative products and technologies for adoption and utilization. Each member agencies was expected to bring materials which include: brochures, posters, flyers, and other raw materials.
In the opening program, Senator Cynthia A. Villar, USEC Segrefredo R. Serrano assisted by Dr. Nicomedes Eleazar and Dr. Teodoro Solsoloy led the ribbon cutting and opening of product exhibits. The first day of the event commences the launching of the National Technology Commercialization Program Primer (NTCP) and Technology Commercialization on Wheels, both are video presentations. After which was the book launching – Research and Development Extension Agenda and Programs (RDEAP) for Agriculture and Fisheries 2016-2022, Climate Change RDEAP for Agriculture and Fisheries 2016-2022 and Organic Farming: A Thriving Fashion and Passion.
The second day was the seminar series and product demonstrations: Kapis Chips Processing and Cooking Demo by Dr. Lilian Garcia, Processing of Chevon Products a “ready to eat food” Cooking Demo by Dr. Jonathan Nayga, Commercial Productions of Free Range Chicken a Livelihood Program for Women by Dr. Ma. Asuncion Beltran, Off-Season Tomato Production Technologies by Ms. Tessie Boncato, Potential Economic Uses of Selected Indigenous Plants Found in Region IV by Mr. Ryan Tayobang, Shiitake Mushroom Production by Ms. Maribel Bacena, and Nutraceuticals from Saluyot and Okra as Preventive Alternative for Health and Wellness by Ms. Tres Tinna Martin.
The third day was the continuation of the seminar series and product demonstration: Soybean Cooking Demo by the Quirino State University, Fish Cream Soup Processing and Cooking Demo by Dr. Perlita Tiburcio, Technology Business Incubation Program by Dr. Lily Ann Lando, Lending Facility for Farmhands and Fishefolks by Emmalyn Guinto, Product Development and Maximizing the Power of Marketing by Glenn Baticados, Farm Tourism Trends: Unlimited Opportunities by Mina Gabor, Planting Materials and Agronomic Practices in Determining Productivity in Rubber Plantations by Dr. Romulo Cena.
The closing ceremony was done on the fourth day. Dr. Nicomedes P. Eleazar, the director of the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research thanked everybody for their active participation in this 12th Agriculture and Fisheries Technoforum. Finally, the event was consummated when the Special Awards (Best Product and the Best Booth) was announced. The best product was bagged by UPLB with their product of cream cheese that has both unique and rich taste. DA RFO I obtained the Best Booth whose ostentatious booth display was an intricately woven product of garlic and corn.
