October 15, 2024 || The Philippine Rubber Research Institute – Rubber Technology Extension Services Division (PRRI-RTESD) facilitated by Mr. Nerio Alap-ap, and Mr. Mark Sozem D. Suello, recently conducted a tapping management training to the Pantawid Pamilya Program (4Ps) in Kabasalan, Zambonga Sibugay. This activity was conducted in collaboration with the Kabasalan Municipal Agriculture Office headed by Ms. Miladel Capitania, Municipal Agriculturist also in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
This capacity training program is a significant step in enhancing the skills and knowledge on farming practices of local rubber farmers in the community – tungo sa GOMA-gaang buhay!

Mr. Jose M. Remollo III, Science Research Specialist I, Mr. Jovanie F. Mejio, Science Research Assistant, Mr. Jay-em-em Jumawan, Research Assistant, and Ms. Vivian M. Calambro, Science Research Specialist II recently conducted the first leg of evaluation for the shortlisted entries in connection with the search for the ‘Largest and Oldest Rubber Tree in the Philippines’ contest on October 8-11, 2024. Three rubber trees were visited and validated in Basilan province while nine rubber trees were shortlisted in Zamboanga Sibugay for their girth size and age.
The PRRI team will be conducting further validations in other regions in the following weeks.

PRRI-RTESD Team, led by Mr. Ariel Villar and Mr. Nerio Alap-ap, conducted the final leg of its Capacity Development workshop focused on Tapping Management on October 9-10, 2024. The event was attended by over 25 rubber farmers coming from various barangays in the Marilog District of Davao City.

On October 9, 2024 || Mr. Zosimo Labastida and Mr. Khamad Sarabon, participants of the Training-of-Trainers (TOT) program from Isabela City, made a courtesy visit to the PRRI office to provide updates on the status of rubber plantations in the region. Their visit included a brief talk, which facilitated knowledge sharing and strengthened collaboration between the participants and PRRI, creating an engaging experience that reinforced commitments to improving agricultural practices in the area.

October 9, 2024 || The Philippine Rice Research Institute (PRRI) recently welcomed Mr. Victor P. Alcantara and Ms. Donnalyn M. Pasquin, staff from the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD). Their visit focused on conducting tagging for various PCAARRD-funded projects. Among the projects were the Design, Fabrication, and Field Trial of Rubber Tree Rain Guards for Improved Latex Recovery, led by Engr. Claire Nova Abdulatip, and the Regional Agri-aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE) Program. Additionally, they discussed Project 1C: Establishment of the Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM), spearheaded by Ms. Evangeline P. Garcia.
