October 2-4, 2024, General Santos City || Dr. Jill D. Villanueva from the Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) participated in the 2024 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) held at the KCC Veranza Activity Center. The event, themed โ€œSiyensya, Teknolohiya at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa, at Panatag na Kinabukasan,โ€ brought together scientists, researchers, innovators, and students from various government and private sectors across the SOCCSKSARGEN region.

On the second day of the event, Dr. Villanueva presented her emerging technology and research and development innovation, the Intelligent Rubber Insect Pests and Disease Diagnostic (IRISDD). This comprehensive and centralized database platform is designed for monitoring, surveillance, and reporting, allowing stakeholders to confirm the incidence of both prevailing and emerging pests affecting rubber crops. The IRISDD aims to provide valuable insights and support to the rubber industry, enhancing the ability to manage pest and disease threats effectively.

The IRISDD is a significant outcome of a project funded by the Department of Science and Technologyโ€™s Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST PCAARRD), titled โ€œArtificial Intelligence-Based Diagnostic Clinic for Detection and Monitoring System for the Management of Rubber Diseases and Insect Pests.โ€ The technology was prominently displayed at the RSTW research, development, and innovation symposium, highlighting its potential impact on the agricultural sector.
