πΌπ§ππ ππ£, πΎπ€π©ππππ©π€ – On July 3, 2023, Executive Director Cheryl Lazaga Eusala of the Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Jeam Villasor of Arakan to commend the Local Government’s proactive efforts in preventing the devastating impact of Pestalotiopsis Leaf Fall Disease (PLFD) on rubber plantations. The fruitful meeting highlighted the collaborative initiatives between the LGU and PRRI in addressing this pressing issue.
Director Eusala acknowledges firsthand the proactive efforts of the Local Government of Arakan, under the leadership of Mayor Villasor in preventing PLFD. Through widespread information dissemination and close collaboration with local farmers, they have successfully raised awareness about the disease and its management strategies. The rubber farmers were able to actively participate in the capacity development programs initiated by the province, resulting in enhanced knowledge and improved disease monitoring techniques.
During the meeting, the Committee on Agriculture was present to discuss the current progress and future plans for PLFD management. Mayor Villasor emphasized the importance of farmer-level monitoring and the implementation of proactive measures to prevent the further spread of the disease. With approximately 500 hectares of rubber plantations in Arakan, the economic losses caused by PLFD could be substantial if left unchecked.
Director Eusala expressed her appreciation for Mayor Villasor’s leadership and the Arakan LGU’s commitment to tackling PLFD. She commended their efforts in harnessing the collective strength of local farmers and fostering a community-driven approach to disease management.
The meeting concluded with Director Eusala commending the proactive measures they have implemented and assured them of PRRIβs continued collaboration by providing capacity development training programs for PLFD to further safeguard the Philippine rubber industry.
