October 4, 2024, in Aroman Cotabato || PRRI Executive Director, Dr. Cheryl Lazaga Eusala hosted a get-together with newly appointed Advisory Council Farmer Representative Mr. Joseph Faustino A. Lago and PRRI technical consultants Dr. Choy Mamaril, Dr. Narceo Bajet, and Mr. Jack Sandique. The meeting focused on sharing PRRI updates and discussing the significance of new improved technology in rubber production to tackle long-standing productivity challenges, with a commitment to providing good quality planting materials. The team visited the Prime Homestead Agri Ventures Inc. (PHAVI) farm, where Mr. Sandique showcased a rubber plantation using advanced management techniques, and also at the PRRI nursery, where Director Eusala demonstrated the nursery process to enhance understanding of effective rubber farming practices.

With deep gratitude, PRRI acknowledges President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for his recognition in appointing Mr. Lago as the first-ever Advisory Council Farmer Representative. We also extend our appreciation to DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. for his support in advancing the interests of our beloved farmers and the Philippine rubber industry.

October 2-4, 2024, General Santos City || Dr. Jill D. Villanueva, OIC-Chief of Crop Management Division of the Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI-CMD) attended the 2024 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) at the KCC Veranza Activity Center where she showcased her innovative technology – the Intelligent Rubber Insect Pests and Disease Diagnostic (IRISDD) on the second day of the event. This technology is a product of the DOST PCAARRD-funded project “Artificial Intelligence-Based Diagnostic Clinic for Detection and Monitoring System for the Management of Rubber Diseases and Insect Pests.” The RSTW gathered scientists, researchers, and students from the SOCCSKSARGEN region for collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

PRRI proudly supports Dr. Jill D. Villanueva in her efforts to disseminate innovative technologies, such as the Intelligent Rubber Insect Pests and Disease Diagnostic (IRISDD), to benefit local communities and enhance the rubber industry.

September 30, 2024 || PRRI Executive Director, Dr. Cheryl Lazaga Eusala, along with the team, made a courtesy visit to the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) in Isabela City, Basilan. During the meeting with Dr. Surhayda T. Aguisanda, the Provincial Agriculturist, PRRI turned over 10,000 polybags for the establishment of an Improved Budwood Garden and Rubber Nursery and also distributed 10,000 polybags for the Latuan Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative (LARBENCO). This delivery also provided the team the opportunity to inspect the designated area for nursery production and ensure its readiness for future agricultural activities.
The PRRI team was composed of an engineer to facilitate irrigation activities and a technical expert specializing in nursery management, underscoring the importance of expert involvement in ensuring the success of the project. The discussions during the visit highlighted the critical role of adopting improved technology in rubber production and fostering future collaborations to enhance agricultural practices in Basilan.
The province has been a key partner in promoting improved agricultural technology, with key stakeholders having been trained in Aroman to ensure that the Package of Technology (POT) of improved rubber production are fully understood and applied.
This initiative exemplifies community mobilization efforts aimed at enhancing local rubber farming practices—tungo sa GOMA-gaang buhay hatid ni PRRI!

The Philippine Rubber Research Institute – Rubber Technology Extension Services Division (PRRI-RTESD), through its Office-In-Charge, Dr. Girlie Saludo, along with Engr. Evangeline Garcia, Mr. Nerio Alap-ap, and Mr. Mark Sozem D. Suello, conducted a Capacity Development training program on Nursery Establishment and Management, Budwood Garden Establishment and Management, and Budding Operation in Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur, from September 24-27, 2024. Twenty-nine (29) participants from Barangay Depore received Certificates of Participation for completing the two-day training, which was conducted in collaboration with Sidlak Demo Farm Inc. This program was a significant step in enhancing the skills of local rubber farmers in the area.
