Ms. Claire Nova Abdulatip, Senior Science Research Specialist of the Rubber Technology Division (RTESD), participated in a comprehensive training workshop conducted by the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) from September 9-13, 2024, at the Technopark Hotel in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

This workshop was specifically designed to enhance the technical writing skills of DOST-PCAARRD scholars and researchers, with a strong emphasis on preparing research results for publication in both local and international journals recognized by the International Scientific Information (ISI). The ability to effectively communicate research findings is crucial for advancing scientific knowledge and ensuring that valuable insights reach a broader audience.

The workshop was led by Dr. Lily Ann D. Lando, a noted expert in scientific writing, who provided participants with a wealth of information and practical strategies. Throughout the sessions, attendees explored essential topics, including: Introduction to Scientific Writing: An overview of the principles and standards of effective scientific communication, focusing on clarity and precision.

Preparing Journal Articles: A guide on structuring articles for submission to journals, including the importance of adhering to specific formatting guidelines. Data Visualization: Techniques for effectively presenting data through graphs, charts, and tables, ensuring that complex information is easily understandable. Crafting Introductions and Abstracts: Best practices for writing compelling introductions that outline the significance of research and abstracts that succinctly summarize key findings. Participants engaged in interactive practical sessions, which allowed them to apply what they learned and receive constructive feedback. This hands-on approach not only enhanced their understanding but also equipped them with the necessary skills to draft high-quality technical papers ready for submission.

This resembles DOST-PCAARRD’s commitment to research excellence in the agricultural and natural resources sectors. By investing in the development of researchers’ technical writing abilities, DOST-PCAARRD aims to empower its scholars to contribute significantly to the scientific community and promote the dissemination of knowledge that can benefit society at large.

Ms. Abdulatip’s participation reflects her dedication to improving her skills and enhancing the impact of her research within the field of rubber technology. The insights gained from this workshop will undoubtedly contribute to her ongoing efforts to promote innovative solutions and advancements in the industry.
