SANITO, ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY – The Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) kicked off a two-day Pre-Inhouse Review of FY 2025 Research Proposals on February 27, 2024, at the PRRI Conference Hall. The review aims to refine research initiatives, ensuring they align with the institute’s strategic direction and address critical needs within the rubber industry.

An esteemed panel of evaluators comprising Dr. Romulo Cena, Dr. Naomi Tangonan, Dr. Narceo Bajet, Dr. Choy Mamaril, Dr. Josephine Migalbin and Ms. Lucel Agustino will lend their expertise to the evaluation process. The rationale behind the review was presented by Ms. Melanie L. Santos, emphasizing the need for focus and a comprehensive approach.

PRRI Executive Director, Dr. Cheryl Lazaga Eusala emphasized the importance of accelerating research efforts in her opening remarks. Inspired by President Marcos’ vision of a “Bagong Pilipinas,” Director Eusala called for a “Bagong PRRI.” She highlighted the urgency for the Philippines to keep pace with other leading rubber-producing countries when it comes to rubber research and product development.

The Director set high expectations for the presenters, emphasizing the need for well-structured proposals that directly address existing gaps in the rubber industry. The outcome of this pre-inhouse review will shape PRRI’s research agenda for FY 2025, ensuring that it effectively supports the growth and sustainability of the Philippine rubber sector.
