On behalf of Dr. Cheryl L. Eusala, Ph.D., Executive Director III of the Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI), Dr. Jill D. Villanueva, OIC-Chief of the Crop Management Division, presented the Natural Rubber (NR) Industry at the forefront of Bagong Pilipinas during the Rubber Conference organized by the Philippine Rubber Industry Association (PRIA) in partnership with Xida Communications. The event took place from September 26-28, 2024, at the Acacia Hotel in Davao City, under the theme β€œRubber: New Frontiers, New Markets.”

In her presentation, Dr. Villanueva highlighted several major PRRI initiatives aligned with the Bagong Pilipinas agenda, focusing on three key areas: Production Support Services, Research, Development, and Extension Support, as well as Education and Training Services Programs. She emphasized the institute’s proactive efforts in combating rubber diseases and the importance of its active engagements on the international platform.

Furthermore, Dr. Villanueva underscored PRRI’s commitment to enhancing the rubber industry under the leadership of Director Eusala, detailing ongoing projects aimed at strengthening and promoting the natural rubber sector in the Philippines.

The conference aimed to accelerate the adoption of innovative approaches and technologies in the rubber industry, prioritizing support for smallholder rubber farmers to secure fair returns for their produce. It was attended by various rubber stakeholders from both the upstream and downstream sectors, facilitating partnerships and collaborations to improve global rubber productivity. This event serves as a significant step toward advancing the rubber industry and ensuring its sustainability in the Philippines.
