Under the leadership of Executive Director Cheryl L. Eusala, Ph.D., the Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) is committed to building strong linkages and collaborations with research-funding institutions such as DOST-PCAARRD. To further its research development, as such, PRRI is establishing deep partnerships with the said institution. Last May 15, 2024, PRRI welcomed representatives from the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) and DOST-Regional S&T for an important monitoring and evaluation visit. This visit focused on the “Establishment of the Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) in PRRI” project, an initiative funded by DOST-PCAARRD under the RAISE program. This project aims to strengthen PRRI’s capabilities in intellectual property protection and technology transfer, facilitating the commercialization of innovative rubber technologies developed through PRRI research efforts.

The DOST-TTPD team, led by Ms. Mae Dagaas along with Mary Ranzelle Pasang and Marko Russel Pasang, and accompanied by DOST-Regional S&T representatives Mr. Jeyzel Aparr and Chezyl Jade Jumamil, conducted a thorough review of PRRI’s IPTBM project’s progress.

As the leader of the IPTBM project team, Engr. Evangeline P. Garcia presented updates on the project’s milestones. These include extensive capacity-building efforts such as training PRRI staff in national and regional intellectual property management courses, completing Prior Art Search (PAS) reports, and filing for the protection of two utility models. An open discussion session followed, allowing the team to address challenges encountered during the project’s implementation.

The meeting ended with the DOST-PCAARRD and DOST-Regional S&T teams giving valuable feedback. As a result, they praised PRRI’s hard work and progress. Their support and guidance are very important commendations – as PRRI keeps working hard to be excellent in research and development all for the sake of the Philippine rubber industry.

A heartfelt thank you to DOST-PCAARRD for your invaluable support! We extend our utmost appreciation and admiration to our dedicated PRRI IPTBM project team for their relentless hard work and commitment. More power to you all as we continue to reach new heights in the rubber industry!
