As part of its mandate, the Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) is actively advancing the rubber industry. On January 15, 2024, Executive Director Cheryl L. Eusala took a progressive initiative that aims to provide high-quality planting materials to rubber farmers across the country’s key rubber-growing regions. This is a significant step towards achieving PRRI’s deliverables for the year 2024.
The meeting focused on the establishment of the rubber nursery and budwood garden at Aroman Experimental Station in Carmen, Cotabato. Mr. Alfonso Jack F. Sandique, a rubber consultant, facilitated the detailed discussions on the layout of the two-hectare rubber nursery, including irrigation, water source, soil analysis, and the crafting of the development plan for the rubber nurseries and budwood garden in Aroman, Carmen, Cotabato. Moreover, the meeting delved into the specifics of potting and the preparation of a budwood garden for resource budscapes, as well as exploring potential seed sources. Mr. Sandique emphasized the crucial role of water in the nursery, which serves as the heart and soul of the plantation, underscoring the importance of site selection and drainage.
The establishment of this rubber nursery and budwood garden signifies a significant milestone for PRRI and exemplifies our dedication to advancing the rubber industry in the country. Not only will it benefit farmers and local communities, but it will also contribute to the overall economic development of the region. This program empowers Cotabato Province and serves the purpose of PRRI’s production support aspect. This initiative marks a noteworthy stride towards the advancement and sustainability of the local rubber industry, ushering in new opportunities for growth and prosperity.
