In another milestone inspired by Bagong Pilipinas campaign for human resource development initiated by Executive Director, Dr. Cheryl L. Eusala (Charming Edcle), PRRI sends its pioneering breeders from Genetic Resources and Improvement Division to Rubber Research Institute of Sri Lanka (RRISL) in Aglawatta, Sri Lanka from March 16 – 24, 2024 for training in rubber breeding.
The training which is part of the Hevea Young Breeders Workshop organized by International Rubber Research and Development Board (IRRDB) and RRISL will cover topics on current status of Hevea breeding and future opportunities, molecular breeding strategies, Disease screening in Clonal Development, Maintenance & development of breeding garden, hands-on Hybridization techniques, 1981 germplasm screening and evaluation, Record keeping: pedigrees & evaluation data, and Foreign clone evaluation.
Through the training, PRRI aims to capacitate its pioneering staff in GRID, as the new generation of rubber breeders in the Philippines, to enable them develop new and high-yielding clones for Filipino rubber farmers.
The PRRI delegation to Sri Lanka includes Ms. Honey Fe G. Boje, Svsng SRS and OIC of GRID, Mr. Jess Bryan M. Alvariño and Mr. Ariel O. Vilar both Sr. SRS, and Mr. Jose M. Remollo III, SRS I.
