DINAS, ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR || The Philippine Rubber Research Institute through its extension arm, the Rubber Technology and Extension Services Division (PRRI-RTESD), led by Engr. Evangeline Garcia and Ms. Juliet Biolango, conducted a two-day Information Awareness program in Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur on September 12-13, 2024 with 31 participants in attendance. This seminar aims to empower rubber farmers with essential knowledge and skills about Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) through Improved Technology on Rubber Production and raising awareness about Pestalotiopsis Leaf Fall Disease (PLFD) and other pests and diseases affecting rubber.

BASILAN PROVINCE || Mr. Ronie Magdua, Science Research Analyst (SRA) and Mr. Demosthenes Pico, Project Technical Assistant I of the Crop Management Division (CMD) – Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) collaborated with Basilan OIC-Provincial Agriculturist Surhayda T. Aguisanda with Mr. Alex Cotales, Agriculturist II and the Latuan Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative (LARBENCO) Manager, Mr. Cristino Bacor, to conduct field validation and monitoring for potential areas for establishment of a Rubber Nursery, Budwood Garden, and plantations. Additionally, the team also conducted a survey on the prevalence of Pinhole Borers and re-assessed the treated PLFD-infected rubber plantations last September 10-13, 2024.

๐’๐ž๐ฉ๐ญ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ, ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’, ANTIPAS, COTABATO || PRRI Executive Director, Dr. Cheryl Lazaga Eusala together with Mr. Jess Bryan Alvariรฑo (GRID), Ms. Honey Boje (GRID), and Ms. Girlie Saludo (OIC-Chief, RTESD) participated in the 3rd Quarter Meeting of the Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF) National Sectoral Committee on Rubber, held in the Municipal Agriculture Office Conference Room, Antipas, Cotabato. Also in attendance were DA-BPI and Mr. Gabriel Igot from the Philippine Rubber Technical Working Group (TWG).

Mr. Jack Alfonso Sandique presided over the meeting, guiding discussions on key initiatives and strategies aimed at strengthening the rubber sector in the Philippines. Additionally, Ms. Honey Boje shared valuable insights on the Project Results regarding the Latex Yield Evaluation of Conventional (S2) and Novel (S4) Rubber Tapping Systems. This project has garnered significant support through a formal resolution.

After the adjournment of the PCAF meeting, the PRRI team conducted a brief session with local rubber farmers to address some of their concerns and queries. The meeting succesfully covered various other agenda items, including the status of Administrative Orders related to pests. Overall, numerous resolutions were passed to ensure the development and sustainability of the rubber industry, reflecting a strong commitment from all stakeholders involved towards a #GOMA-gaang buhay!

Nita Roldan, Science Research Analyst (PRRI) And Mr. Glenn Corpuz, Project Assistant II of Crop Management Division (CMD) of the Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) along with a team of agricultural experts, Mr. John Helbert Galili, Agriculturist I (City Agriculture Office of Gingoog) Mr. Rolly Arconada, Agricultural Technician (City Agriculture Office of Gingoog) Mr. Bruce Condeza, Farm Foreman (City Agriculture Office of Gingoog) conducted validation of the list of rubber farmers, assessed the severity of pests and diseases affecting rubber plantations, particularly Pestalotiopsis Leaf Fall Disease (PLFD), coordinated the distribution of agricultural inputs, and facilitated drone operations to capture aerial footage of the rubber plantations last September 11-13, 2024.
