The Philippine Rubber Research Institute headed by Executive Director Eusala hosted a webinar series titled “Rubber Pest and Diseasesโโ in person of Mr. Jess Bryan Alvariรฑo, Liaison Officer of NextGeNRE (IRRDB Youth Specialist Group) and a Senior Science Research Specialist at PRRI. Together with him is Dr. Jill Villanueva, the OIC-Crop Management Division who is also one of the speakers, and Ms. Ma. Nita Roldan, the Science Research Analyst via Zoom on August 22, 2024.
The International Rubber Research and Development Board (IRRDB) Specialist Group, or the Next Generation of Natural Rubber Experts (NextGeNRE) purposely organized the webinar to highlight diverse specialized topics by engaging with leading plant pathologists from IRRDB member countries, explore the world rubber pests and diseases, gain valuable insights with experts at the forefront of the field. In connection to this, speakers of the webinar were Dr. Jill Villanueva (Philippines), Dr. Tri Rapani Febbiyanti (Indonesia), Dr. Sarojini Fernando (Sri Lanka), Ms. Arom Rodesuchit (Thailand) and Dr. Shaji Phillip (India).
Those present at the said event were the ff: Secretariat of the International Rubber Research and Development Board, such as; the IRRDB Secretary General, Datuk Seri Dr. Abdul Aziz SA Kadir, Liaison Officers of the different Specialist Groups, and IRRDB Fellows.
Furthermore, various research institutes, cooperatives, national agencies, and universities are also present, such as; Cambodian Rubber Research Institute, Malaysian Rubber Board, Hainan University of China, Rubber Research Institute of India, Rubber Research Institute of Sri Lanka, Indonesian Rubber Research Institute, Rubber Research Institute of Nigeria, Rubber Authority of Thailand (RAOT), RIKEN of Japan, Rubber Research Institute of Vietnam, National Agronomic Research Center (CNRA) of Cรดte d’Ivoire, PNG Rubber Industry Development Board, ERAIFT of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Xida Communications of Italy, Papua New Guinea Rubber Industry Development Board, Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries of Malaysia, LEBIHASIL SDN BHD of Malaysia, Department of Agriculture (DOA) Myanmar, and Wayamba University of Sri Lanka.
In the Philippines, participants who attended were the offices from the PRRI, DA-Crop Biotech Center, Regional Crop Protection Center Region 10, UPL Philippines Incorporated, MAFAR-BARMM, Banisilan Rubber Farmers Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative, NEMSU, MSU- Lanao del Norte Agricultural College, SPAMAST, CMU, USM and UPLB.
The webinar featured presentations from leading plant pathologists from various IRRDB member countries, including Dr. Jill Villanueva (Philippines), Dr. Tri Rapani Febbiyanti (Indonesia), Dr. Sarojini Fernando (Sri Lanka), Ms. Arom Rodesuchit (Thailand), and Dr. Shaji Phillip (India). The speakers discussed a wide range of topics related to rubber pests and diseases, providing valuable insights into their identification, prevention, and control.
