The Department of Agriculture Region IX, headed by Regional Director Constancio G. Alama had successfully done the Outreach Program in three preselected municipalities in Zamboanga Peninusula namely; Siay (Zamboanga Sibugay), Tukuran (Zamboanga del Sur), Sibutad (Zamboanga del Norte) on June 20-23, 2017. This particular outreach program was birthed because of the directive from the Secretary to spend time and money to community immersion instead of lavish programs on hotels.

It was unanimously agreed upon during one RMC session in Dipolog by the Regional Management Committee that they will do an Outreach Program instead of Sportsfest in line with the celebration of the 119th Anniversary of the Department of Agriculture. As a result of the meeting, one municipality was selected for each province. Contacts per province were then informed so that they can prepare the place ahead of time for the program. Each agency made a commitment to hand-in goods or services for the said program. Many opted to give flyers and others reading materials as part of their giveaways. During the day-to-day program, attached agencies and bureaus extended their part by giving services and techno-clinic as part of the half-day activity. Some of the attached agencies did their turnover of certificates/projects in the middle of the program like Department of Agriculture (DA-IX), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA), Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI). Prior to techno-cliniquing, each agencies were appropriated time to introduce their respective offices to bring awareness to the people about their programs and activities. After which, IEC materials were readily distributed to anyone who wishes to know more about the program and the projects being implemented by the agencies and attached bureaus.

This is the first Outreach Program that the Department of Agriculture decided to do it for the people. Indeed, this was a great opportunity for us civil servants to organize events such as this to extend help to those who are truly in need. Moreover, this kind of event encourages camaraderie between local government and the rubber farmers/fisher folks. Through this outreach program, we are also promoting social upliftment in the best way possible. Kudos to the Department of Agriculture for a job well done!
