September 30, 2024 โ The Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI), led by Executive Director Dr. Cheryl Lazaga Eusala, conducted a courtesy visit to the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) in Isabela City, Basilan. This visit, which underscores PRRI’s commitment to supporting local agricultural initiatives, included meaningful discussions and the distribution of essential resources for rubber farming.
During the visit, Dr. Eusala and her team met with Dr. Surhayda T. Aguisanda, the Provincial Agriculturist of OPAg-Basilan, in which they turned over 10,000 polybags for the establishment of an Improved Budwood Garden and Rubber Nursery and 10,000 polybags also for the Latuan Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative (LARBEMCO). This initiative is designed to enhance local rubber production and provide farmers with the tools they need to improve their agricultural practices.
In addition to the distribution of polybags, the discussions highlighted the importance of adopting improved technology in rubber production. Dr. Eusala emphasized that integrating modern practices can significantly boost productivity and sustainability in the rubber industry, ultimately benefiting the local farming community.
The visit served as a platform to foster future collaborations between PRRI and local stakeholders, with the aim of enhancing the skills and resources available to rubber farmers in the region. By working together, PRRI and OPAg-Basilan can create a more resilient agricultural environment that supports sustainable development.
This initiative exemplifies PRRI’s community mobilization efforts aimed at enhancing local rubber farming practices and improving the livelihoods of farmers – tungo sa GOMA-gaang buhay, hatid ni PRRI!
Through such initiatives, PRRI continues to demonstrate its commitment to empowering local communities and advancing the rubber industry in the Philippines.
