Davao de Oro, Philippines โ€“ The third day of the International Rubber Workshop on Crop Management brought participants to the heart of rubber farming in the Municipality of Laak, Davao de Oro. Organized by PRRI, the field visit shed light on both traditional practices and modern challenges within the industry.

The day commenced with a journey to Brgy. Concepciรณn, Laak, Davao de Oro, where participants delved into the traditional rubber farming practices in the country. As the day progressed, participants transitioned to Brgy. Mabuhay, Laak, Davao de Oro, for the second part of the field visit. Here, the stark reality of modern challenges became evident as the group visited a rubber farm plantation infected with Pestalotiopsis, a notorious plant pathogen. This segment underscored the importance of robust plant protection strategies, reinforcing discussions from earlier workshop sessions.

The field visit became a platform for participants to interact with local farmers, exchange ideas, and witness firsthand the intricate interplay between tradition and innovation in rubber farming. Discussions were rich, and questions flowed freely as experts and participants engaged in meaningful conversations.

Day 3 of the workshop encapsulated the workshop’s overarching theme of “Boosting Productivity in Small Holdings and Advancing Crop Protection in the Rubber Industry.” It underscored the need for sustainable practices that harmonize tradition and innovation while addressing contemporary challenges such as plant infections.
