PRRI-RTESD Team, led by Mr. Ariel Villar and Mr. Nerio Alap-ap, conducted the final leg of its Capacity Development workshop focused on Tapping Management on October 9-10, 2024. The event was attended by over 25 rubber farmers coming from various barangays in the Marilog District of Davao City.

On October 9, 2024 || Mr. Zosimo Labastida and Mr. Khamad Sarabon, participants of the Training-of-Trainers (TOT) program from Isabela City, made a courtesy visit to the PRRI office to provide updates on the status of rubber plantations in the region. Their visit included a brief talk, which facilitated knowledge sharing and strengthened collaboration between the participants and PRRI, creating an engaging experience that reinforced commitments to improving agricultural practices in the area.

In the third episode of the PCAARRD Story Series, DOST-PCAARRD visited PRRI on October 8, 2024 to personally interview two remarkable personalities: Dr. Jill Villanueva and Ms. Claire Nova O. Abdulatip, both graduates of the GREAT Program. Both of their achievements serve as an inspiration to others within the organization and the broader community. Through their inspiring stories, they aim to motivate future scholars to pursue their own paths of growth and success. PRRI supports its scholars and makes sure that it provides an environment that encourages innovation and excellence among its employees.

The institute looks forward to seeing how these GREAT scholars will continue to make more impactful contributions in the agricultural community and the society as a whole.

October 9, 2024 || The Philippine Rice Research Institute (PRRI) recently welcomed Mr. Victor P. Alcantara and Ms. Donnalyn M. Pasquin, staff from the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD). Their visit focused on conducting tagging for various PCAARRD-funded projects. Among the projects were the Design, Fabrication, and Field Trial of Rubber Tree Rain Guards for Improved Latex Recovery, led by Engr. Claire Nova Abdulatip, and the Regional Agri-aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE) Program. Additionally, they discussed Project 1C: Establishment of the Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM), spearheaded by Ms. Evangeline P. Garcia.

October 4, 2024, in Aroman Cotabato || PRRI Executive Director, Dr. Cheryl Lazaga Eusala hosted a get-together with newly appointed Advisory Council Farmer Representative Mr. Joseph Faustino A. Lago and PRRI technical consultants Dr. Choy Mamaril, Dr. Narceo Bajet, and Mr. Jack Sandique. The meeting focused on sharing PRRI updates and discussing the significance of new improved technology in rubber production to tackle long-standing productivity challenges, with a commitment to providing good quality planting materials. The team visited the Prime Homestead Agri Ventures Inc. (PHAVI) farm, where Mr. Sandique showcased a rubber plantation using advanced management techniques, and also at the PRRI nursery, where Director Eusala demonstrated the nursery process to enhance understanding of effective rubber farming practices.

With deep gratitude, PRRI acknowledges President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for his recognition in appointing Mr. Lago as the first-ever Advisory Council Farmer Representative. We also extend our appreciation to DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. for his support in advancing the interests of our beloved farmers and the Philippine rubber industry.
