From the moment Executive Director Cheryl L. Eusala, Ph.D. stepped into office, she has already envisioned revolutionizing the Philippine rubber industry in its approach to improved rubber technology – for the purpose of revitalizing this once-called “sunset” industry. First and foremost, she aims to ensure that all PRRI technical employees have a thorough, deep, and heartfelt understanding of the technology so that they can effectively impart this knowledge to others. To this end, eleven (11) technical personnel from the Crop Management Division (CMD) participated in an immersive training program on improved rubber production technology on May 28-31, 2024. This hands-on training, held at the PRRI Experimental Station in Aroman, Carmen, North Cotabato, equipped CMD personnel with the latest advancements in the field, ensuring they are well-prepared to lead the way in modern rubber production techniques.

We would like to thank the guidance of Farm Supervisor Ms. Flora H. Arciaga, who led the discussions and hands-on demonstration for PRRI-CMD personnel on seed selection, nursery layout, fertilization, soil mixing and budding operations. Mr. Jay Mark Avila, who discussed the factors to be considered in seedbed preparation and construction for optimal seedling growth. Moreover, Mr. Jay Rhyan Ogdol, who demonstrated how to handle rubber effectively by sharing knowledge on how to plant rubber seeds and control weeds in rubber plantations. Furthermore, Mr. Jiovanie Mejio who discussed one session on practical demonstration of the proper process of tapping rubber trees and associated procedures. His experience makes the participants better understand the process of tapping, which is an important aspect of rubber production.

The immersion experience of the 11 technical personnel from PRRI-CMD has been a success, and we are always ready to embrace new innovations and best practices to improve productivity and sustainability in rubber cultivation. By staying at the forefront of technology, we aim to contribute more effectively to the betterment of the Philippine rubber industry. Here in PRRI, we ensure that our efforts align with the Presidential campaign of Bagong Pilipinas.
